The honest answer is $250 to $900 for most Broward County garages, with the average two-car garage landing near $550. But that range is wide enough to be useless on its own, so here's what actually moves the number.
Junk removal is priced by volume, not by hour or item
Nearly every legitimate hauler in South Florida prices by how much of the truck bed your load fills. A standard dump-body truck holds roughly 450 to 480 cubic feet, and the industry sells it in quarters.
| Load | Volume | Typical Broward price |
|---|---|---|
| Minimum load | ~60 cu ft | $100–$175 |
| Quarter truck | ~120 cu ft | $150–$300 |
| Half truck | ~240 cu ft | $300–$550 |
| Three-quarter truck | ~340 cu ft | $450–$750 |
| Full truck | ~450 cu ft | $550–$1,000 |
Understanding this is the single most useful thing you can do before calling anyone, because it gives you a way to compare quotes. Ask every company one question: what fraction of a truck is that price buying me? A company that won't answer is a company whose price you cannot check.
Translating that to actual garages
- One bay, or a defined pile: quarter truck. Around $250.
- A standard two-car garage, moderately full: half truck. Around $550.
- Two-car garage plus a shed or patio: three-quarter truck. Around $725.
- Three-car garage, or packed floor-to-rafters: full truck. Around $900.
- Whole-house or estate clear: two to four full truckloads.
People consistently underestimate their own garage by about one tier. What reads as "half full" from the doorway is usually a half truck once it's off the shelves and on the ground, because vertical storage compresses volume in a way your eye doesn't account for.
The three add-ons that surprise people
These are real facility charges, not upsells — but you should know about them before the truck is in your driveway.
- Refrigerators, freezers, and A/C units: +$40–$60 each. Federal law requires certified refrigerant recovery before disposal. If a quote for hauling your old garage fridge has no refrigerant line, either they're absorbing it or they're skipping the step.
- Mattresses and box springs: +$30–$40 each. Separate mattress-recycling fee at the facility.
- Tires: +$20–$30 each. Tires are banned from standard landfill disposal in Florida.
Heavy debris — concrete, tile, brick, dirt, roofing — is a different category entirely, priced by weight rather than volume, because a truck hits its legal axle limit long before it looks full.
What should already be included
Labor, loading, fuel, transportation, and standard transfer-station fees should all be inside the quoted number. If a company quotes you a price and then mentions "dump fees" once your things are on the truck, that is the oldest move in this industry and it is the reason junk removal has the reputation it has.
Why the cheapest quote is sometimes the most expensive
You can find someone on Facebook Marketplace who'll do your garage for $180. Sometimes that's a genuine low-overhead operator and you got a deal. Sometimes it's a pickup truck without a disposal account — and a hauler without a disposal account has to put your water heater somewhere. In Broward County that "somewhere" is frequently a swale two neighborhoods over, and illegal dumping citations get traced back through the paperwork left inside the load.
Two questions filter this in about ten seconds: Where does my load go? and Do you carry general liability insurance? Vague answers to either are your answer.
How to get an accurate quote in two minutes
Stand in the garage doorway and take three photos — straight ahead, hard left, hard right. Text them to whoever you're considering. Any competent hauler can price a garage from three photos, and it saves you a sales visit. If a company insists on coming out to "assess" before they'll give you a number, they're planning to sell you in your driveway.
